Miles han sido los alumnos que dieron sus primeros pasos educativos en las aulas de este importante establecimiento educacional la Escuela D-350, actualmente Alejandro Gorostiaga Orrego.
La Escuela D-350 Alejandro Gorostiaga Orrego, fue fundada en el año 1900 y proviene de la fusión de las Escuelas Nº 1 de Hombres y Nº 2 de Mujeres, quien fuera fundada en el año 1900 como Grupo Escolar Nº 1 de Hombres y Nº 2 de Mujeres, luego fue Escuela D-350 , para quedar finalmente como Escuela Alejandro Gorostiaga Orrego, nombre que lleva hasta hoy .
Se construyó en donde se encontraba la antigua plaza Gregorio Urrutia de la comuna, tuvo como primer director Nº 1 de Hombres Bernardo Grossling y la Nº 2 de Mujeres al docente Evaristo San Martin.
A través del proceso de municipalización, tuvo un importante crecimiento educativo, en cuento a implementación educativa se refiere, contando con los niveles de Educación Pre básica y Educación Básica, la etapa de municipalización culmina con el traspaso desde la municipalidad de Nueva Imperial hasta el recientemente creado Servicio Local de Educación Pública Costa Araucanía, gracias a la promulgación de la Ley 21.040 que crea la Nueva Educación Pública, una institucionalidad descentralizada y que se encuentra al alero de la Dirección de Educación Pública, dependiente del Ministerio de Educación.
Actualmente, el establecimiento cuenta con una planta docente liderada por su Director Gabriel Rolando Torres Romero, una Inspectoría General conformada, un UTP, un equipo de convivencia escolar y 34 docentes de aula, Asistentes de la Educación. Sus estudiantes una gran parte proviene de sectores rurales y urbanos de la comuna imperialina.
El establecimiento educacional, atiende a dos niveles de enseñanza: Educación Parvularia en los niveles Transición Mayor 1 y Transición Mayor 2; Educación Básica completa de 1º a 8º año complementado con un Programa de Integración que atiende a más de cien estudiantes.
